NJSLA at NVA

Starting on April 27, 2026, New Jersey Student Learning Assessment-Adaptive (NJSLA-A) will be administered.

This new computer-based adaptive assessment matches the content and skills outlined in the New Jersey Student Learning Standards that guide instruction in the classroom and provide valuable information about student learning. All students enrolled in appropriate courses at the tested grade levels are required to take the NJSLA-A.

The Big Date
Testing at NVA will begin on April 27, 2026.

What is the NJSLA-A?
This year, the state is moving to a new version called the NJSLA-Adaptive (NJSLA-A) for English and Math.

How it works: Unlike older tests, this computer-based version is "smart." It adjusts the difficulty of questions in real-time based on how your child is doing, which helps provide a more accurate picture of their progress.
Why it matters: The assessment matches exactly what students are learning in our classrooms and helps us ensure every student is on track.

Who takes it?
All students enrolled in the tested grade levels/courses are required to participate.

English Language Arts (ELA): All students in Grades 3 through 9.
Mathematics:
- All students in Grades 3 through 8.

🔬 A Note on the Science Assessment

In addition to English and Math, students in Grades 5, 8, and 11 will also take the NJSLA-Science assessment.

Format: Unlike the adaptive English and Math tests, the Science test remains a standard (fixed) format where all students in a grade level see the same set of questions.
Goal: This assessment measures how well students are mastering the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science, focusing on scientific inquiry and reasoning.
