Mission and Goals

Our Mission

NuView Academy

Founded in 2000, The NuView Academy is a New Jersey Department of Education approved alternative educational program  for students exhibiting severe symptoms or diagnosis of Depression, ADHD, Conduct Disorder, Thought Disorder, or Anxiety Disorder.  

Offered in collaboration with Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care, the NuView Academy program provides a free, appropriate, public education (FAPE), in the least restrictive environment (LRE) for students who who function academically at or near grade level, but have difficulty adapting to the traditional school setting due of severe behavioral problems. The NuView Academy operates from  8:30 a.m. - 2:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, on a 48 week basis per school year.

The NuView Academy is committed to providing the highest quality educational and clinical environment that enables special needs students with emotional and behavioral disabilities to achieve individualized academic excellence.  Our exemplary, stimulating atmosphere provides our students with the tools needed to improve their self-esteem, develop individual responsibility, and evolve into productive members of society.

Goals & Objectives

NuView Academy students, in addition to meeting the core academic, curricular requirements of their individualized educational plan:  

  • Participate in a psychiatric evaluation to determine current therapeutic needs
  • Participate in family therapy to gain insights into their families' constellation
  • Acquire cognitive behavioral skills training
  • Learn self-management techniques
  • Participate fully in individual therapy to promote individual growth
  • Obtain medication education for increased understanding of prescribed medications
  • Learn core curriculum skills as described in each student's IEP

The NuView and additional ESCNJ staff, in collaboration with Rutgers University Behavioral  Health Care:

  • Provide an Extended School Year program
  • Create a positive therapeutic environment for the students
  • Develop a positive behavior management system, with emphasis on positive reinforcement for acceptable behavior
  • Maintain liaison with the local child study team
  • Conduct regular Interdisciplinary/treatment Team meetings
  • Provide individualized cognitive Interventions for students
  • Evaluate each student's behavior every two weeks
  • Maintain, through the Case Manager, close contact with the home
  • Provide an academic program as described in each student's IEP

 Visits to NuView Academy by resident child study team members and parent/guardians are always welcome.
